Naked Mole-Rats Do Not Age Like You
Their risk of death does not increase with age — they are biologically non-ageing.
Reviewed by the CurioVault curator · 8 October 2026 · Editorial standards

Naked mole-rats live 30+ years, ten times longer than similar rodents. In 2018, a study of 3,000 animals found their mortality rate stays flat — they do not get more likely to die as they age. They also resist cancer, survive 18 minutes without oxygen, and can run backwards as fast as forwards. The queen is the only breeder, suppressing others with a chemical in her faeces.
