Tsutomu Yamaguchi was on a business trip to Hiroshima on 6 Aug 1945 when the first atomic bomb detonated 3km away. Burned and deafened, he spent the night in a shelter, then boarded a train home to Nagasaki — where the second bomb exploded the next day, again 3km away. He lived until 93, a vocal anti-nuclear campaigner. Officially the only person recognised by Japan to have survived both bombings.
