Your sneeze is a high-speed gas cloud that travels 26 feet. MIT researchers using high-speed video found sneezes do not just spray droplets, they create a turbulent buoyant cloud that traps droplets and keeps them airborne for minutes, travelling up to 8 meters. The fastest droplets exit at up to 100 mph. The cloud protects smaller droplets from evaporating, extending their range far beyond the old 3-6 foot rule. It is why ventilation matters more than distance. What feels like a single burst is actually a floating, growing infectious plume.
