Cleopatra lived closer in time to the iPhone than to the pyramids' construction. The Great Pyramid of Giza was built around 2560 BC. Cleopatra died in 30 BC, about 2,530 years later. The first iPhone launched in 2007, only 2,037 years after her death. That means she is 500 years nearer to us with smartphones than to the builders stacking limestone blocks. Ancient Egypt was already ancient to the Romans. We compress history, but the pyramids were old relics even when Caesar met Cleopatra in Alexandria.
